JO’s birds, set free among leaves and flowers, explode with colour and humour. They are based on exotics from the silk road, medieval owls and cheeky chirpers, all found on pottery fragments, textiles, and more, from UK museums, illuminated manuscripts and medieval buildings.

A BC artist, Jo was known locally for her heritage work until she moved to the Okanagan, painting indigenous plants, winning an Award from the City of Kelowna for her Arrow-leaf sunflower painting.

She sold her house and studio, living a gypsy life between BC and UK, drawing church bench carvings, resulting in a book: Carved on Oak.

Now she is back painting in Vancouver.
“Life comes full circle,” she laughs, “I started life as an artist in Lima, Peru – immersed in pre-Inca designs that also included birds”.
