Botanical Illustration (Online)

Thursday, September 23 - Thursday, October 7 10.00am - 12.00pm

Learn how to draw plants from an aesthetic and botanical perspective while improving your observation and artistic skills. This 3-session course is ideal for anyone wishing to approach botanical drawing from a beginner level in the comfort of their own home. Participants will be given step-by-step instructions on how to progress through botanical drawing projects using graphite pencils. Instructor Katharine Dickinson will guide participants through contour and gesture drawing exercises, followed by longer studies using line and tonal drawing techniques.

Plants to Make an Autumn Garden Pop! (Online)

Janis Matson will address how to incorporate bark, fruit, foliage, and flowers to enhance autumnal colour, texture and form. Series: How to Spot an Alien Invader (Online)

Ever wondered what plants live in your neighbourhood and local parks? How do you know which ones are invasive? After learning some basic plant identification skills, discover some of the priority invasive species in the region. Access resources and learn what can be done about even the most harmful alien invaders in this two-part series.

Instructor Tasha Murray is Executive Director of the Invasive Species Council of Metro Vancouver and has been involved in conservation in the Pacific Northwest for over twenty years.

Watercolour Series: Colours of Autumn (In person class)

Thursday, October 21 - Thursday, October 28 10.00am - 12.30pm

Illustrator and Artist Susan Pearson will guide this class through watercolour exercises to explore the season’s shifting colours in this two-part series.

Whether your subject matter is bright apples, crimson leaves, or autumn foliage (silver twigs and delicate seed heads), you will explore, what Susan calls, the watercolour vocabulary!

Her demonstrations and techniques, as well as one on one individual attention, will inspire and prompt you to create beautiful watercolours.

This course is suitable for beginners to intermediates.
