Join author/illustrator Vicky Earle as she describes the benefits of being in nature alongside a variety of discoveries highlighted in her new book, Exploring Vancouver Naturehoods.

Naturalist's Journal: Botanical Drawing (Online)

Wednesday, October 4 - Wednesday, October 18 11.00am - 1.00pm

Improve your drawing skills to become a better artist for journaling, teaching, or pure enjoyment. Observational drawing is about accurately representing what you see directly from nature in pencil on paper. In this process, identify plants by recording their character using the elements of art:  line, shape, form and colour, to develop your unique illustrations of plant life. Learn a variety of methods and approaches to capture quick representations of plants from different perspectives as well as close-up detail. Katharine will teach you how to record nature through illustration.

Hand Felted Flowers

FELT Ă  la main with LOVE SOFT SCULPTURAL FLOWER

Wool+Water+Agitation=Magic! In this introduction to wet felting workshop, you will learn how to make a soft sculptural hand-felted flower. Starting with a 2D flat layout of fibres, wetting it down, agitating it or felting it until it becomes a material, cutting it, fulling it and sculpting it into a 3D flower. You will be given different shaping and finishing options, like cutting petals and creating stamens. Felting tools will be standing by for you to use (bubble wrap, felting solution, soap, towel.). Fibre supplies will be provided to make one flower.

Intro to Pacific Northwest Mushrooms (Online)

Tuesday, October 17 6.30 - 8.30pm

October is typically the time of the year when we see the widest variety of mushrooms. As summer transitions to fall, rain and cool temperatures cause mushrooms to show up with increasing frequency. This class is an excellent introduction to mushroom foraging. It includes the basics of how mushrooms work, why they are critical to healthy ecosystems, where to find them, the basics of identification, and some common poisonous species.

Wildlife Photography 101

Located in one of the top wildlife hotspots on the continent, the Vancouver region and its surroundings on the British Columbia coast are home to some spectacular species. With such an incredible abundance of wildlife, it is no surprise that the parks in the region are also popular with photo enthusiasts and wildlife lovers, who visit from near and far.

Join wildlife photographer Liron Gertsman for an in-depth wildlife photography workshop, going over tips, tricks and techniques for wildlife photography that can be applied regardless of your camera of choice, smartphones included.
