Designing Bulb Gardens (Online)

Tuesday, September 14 2021 6.30pm - 8.00pm

From cut flowers to containers to permanent garden features, bulbs can add value, detail, and fun to any garden space. In this class, Janis Matson will discuss design concepts as they apply to colour, texture, blooming time, and layering. Which bulbs are considered annuals, perennials, or naturalized in our climate? From the easy to grow to the more exotic, we’ll learn the importance of exposure, soil, and planting depth for a variety of bulbs.

The class will explore the fascinating world beneath our feet and the intimate relationships between plants and soil. You will learn how to boost your garden’s health by supporting the complex interactions and processes that living soils and compost provide. This class will also guide you on making, managing, and using your compost to amend your garden soil.Ā  Instructor Jo Tobias is a Regenerative Soils & Living Compost Specialist with the primary goal of helping farmers and gardeners alike regenerate the life in their soil.

Botanical Illustration (Online)

Learn how to draw plants from an aesthetic and botanical perspective while improving your observation and artistic skills. This 3-session course is ideal for anyone wishing to approach botanical drawing from a beginner level in the comfort of their own home. Participants will be given step-by-step instructions on how to progress through botanical drawing projects using graphite pencils. Instructor Katharine Dickinson will guide participants through contour and gesture drawing exercises, followed by longer studies using line and tonal drawing techniques.
